From LaunchX Alum to Strategic Partner: Ishgun’s Full-Circle Journey

LaunchX 2024 Alumni Mariya

When Ishgun Singh Arora attended LaunchX as an 11th grader, he brought with him a passion for creation and a project aimed at repurposing agricultural waste in India. Fast forward nearly a decade, and the 25-year-old serial entrepreneur has returned to LaunchX not as a student, but as the co-founder of a cutting-edge AI startup actively helping the program grow.

Today, Ishgun’s company, XLR8 AI, is partnering with LaunchX to navigate the biggest shift in internet behavior since the invention of the search engine: the rise of AI search.

Here is how a high school summer project laid the groundwork for a thriving tech startup, and how a LaunchX Alum is giving back to the community that inspired him.

The LaunchX Foundation: Embracing the "Experimental" Mindset

The entrepreneurial bug bit early for Ishgun. By the time he entered LaunchX, he had already built a paper-recycling machine that won international competitions. His time at LaunchX, where he worked on a business model to convert crop stubble into manufacturing materials, then provided something arguably more valuable than a single business idea: a radical shift in mindset.

Growing up in an environment that heavily valued analytical thinking, Ishgun found the Silicon Valley-style philosophy taught at LaunchX to be a game-changer.

"The experimental side really struck me. You need to be able to experiment, accept failure, and do it again and again to make it work. That philosophy came from LaunchX."

This mindset, when paired with the analytical pragmatism he developed growing up in India, created a powerful combination. Ishgun learned to build fearlessly, but also to track unit economics strictly and know exactly when it was time to move on.

A Track Record of Iteration

Following his LaunchX experience, Ishgun began a series of rapid iterations, testing new concepts as market needs and personal circumstances shifted.

In late high school, inspired by the LaunchX community, he built a networking platform for student entrepreneurs in India. The platform allowed students to pitch ideas and find co-founders, eventually reaching a couple of thousand high schools and earning a recommendation from an Indian cabinet minister.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, while studying machine learning at Carnegie Mellon University, he launched NextGen Tutors. Recognizing that students could no longer attend in-person tutoring, he utilized Zoom to connect students in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities with top-tier tutors. By scaling virtual classrooms to 100–200 students, the unit economics became highly profitable for the tutors while remaining affordable for the students. When it was time to return to campus, Ishgun successfully handed the profitable business over to his mother to run.

By his junior year, he caught the Web3 wave, raising venture capital for The Fashionverse, a startup creating digital clothing NFTs that users could wear across gaming platforms like Roblox and social media filters. However, when the crypto market crashed, Ishgun recognized that the macroeconomic tailwinds had shifted and came to the calculated decision with the founders to shut the company down.

Finding the "Right Time, Right Place"

After a stint as the first employee at an acquired Web3 data API startup, Ishgun moved to San Francisco in mid-2024. By March 2025, he launched XLR8 AI alongside a co-founder whose research background was in adversarial machine learning.

This time, everything clicked. XLR8 AI targets a massive, modern problem: Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). As users shift away from standard Google searches and begin asking AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude for recommendations, brands are scrambling to ensure they appear in those generated answers. XLR8 AI reverse-engineers how these models select and synthesize data, executing strategies, using platforms like Reddit and YouTube, to get their clients featured.

Today, the company is entirely bootstrapped, profitable, and growing at roughly 20% month-over-month with a team split between the US and offshore.

Coming Full Circle

The partnership with LaunchX was sparked organically at a 2025 alumni event in San Francisco, where Ishgun reconnected with the team. They realized they had the same target audience. The high school students of today aren't just Googling "best summer programs”, they are asking AI models to help them plan for college and recommend entrepreneurship camps. Fast forward to now, LaunchX and XLR8 meet weekly for a renewed four-month engagement to double down on the strategy.

For Ishgun, leveraging his company's technology to help LaunchX is more than just a successful B2B contract. It’s a direct way to invest in the ecosystem that originally invested in him.

"The reason to work with LaunchX goes beyond the business... it's really just trying to give back in whatever way I can," Ishgun shared. "Our entire engagement is about making sure more students are able to view LaunchX on the surface areas they're actually searching on, so more people can try this out and experiment with the program."
