I have bought into a business opportunity (MLM) and I want to know the best way to sell my product on the internet. I am not having any luck with my business, what do you suggest that I should do? – V.H.

The business you are working on is obviously an MLM. Most likely, you bought in to an opportunity to “recruit” more people and secondarily to sell the retail credit products and were provided with your own “website” from which to garner your riches. While it is critical for any startup that you develop a comprehensive business and marketing plan in order to succeed, this (and most other) MLM programs come with inherent limitations on your ability to control the business.

First, no matter what business you are launching, it is critical to thoroughly plan the venture. You must know and understand your product, competition, and target market…if you aren’t clear about what you are selling and to whom you are trying to sell, your business won’t get very far. You should be aware of all of your marketing options, and in the case of MLM programs, your marketing limitations.

In your case, it appears that the webpage you were provided is simply an additional page on the parent company’s own website. Therefore, you have almost no control over the critical SEO (search engine optimization) opportunities that make a business website accessible to the internet public. So, your marketing would have to rely on direct advertising through print or online ads, word of mouth, email blasts, and the like. All businesses require a solid marketing plan, and MLM programs can be particularly difficult to market. Most likely, you will need to invest a significant amount of capital and effort to achieve even minimal results, but NONE should be invested until you have a well-developed plan in place.

More than 98% of all people who buy in to MLMs fail to earn back their initial investment. The reasons for this are pretty simple. The hype of MLMs make it seem as though you can make a fortune with no effort. Of course, like any other business, success relies on three keys: Planning, Marketing, and Financial Management. Unfortunately, the nature of MLMs makes it difficult to effectively market (unless you are the one on top) and provide no tools to help first-time entrepreneurs manage their startup.

If you are truly committed to the MLM program you have purchased, you should start by backing up and actually planning your business, including a marketing plan and budget. There is a good chance you will discover that you are better off cutting your losses and finding your own business idea to launch. The LaunchX System is designed to walk you through the startup process step-by-step to ensure you become a knowledgeable, skilled entrepreneur who can succeed in just about any type of business.

Regardless of the business you select, don’t expect to get rich overnight. Entrepreneurship is the best route to personal wealth, but it requires commitment and dedication, fundamental business knowledge and skills, a good marketable idea, and enough time and cash to get the venture off the ground. Check out the LaunchX System - it was created to help first-time entrepreneurs through every step of a business startup, from basic planning to securing financing to managing employees.
